Università degli Studi dell'Insubria
Faculty Member, Department of Clinical Medicine
About
Main research interests: pharmacology of neuroimmunomodulation, nervous system-immune system interactions (in particular adrenergic and dopaminergic mechanisms and their clinical relevance in neurological disorders, anti-tumor response, autoimmunity, immune tolerance). Further research interests concern neuro- and immunopharmacology, including the effects of CNS drugs on the immune response and the screening of new candidate drugs for their effects on the nervous system and/or on the immune system.
A specific research area regards the pharmacology of herbs and herbal drugs, in the context of the "PhytoINSURED INTERNATIONAL TRAINING NETWORK - PHYTOceuticals for INnovative & SUstainable REsearch & Drugs" and in collaboration with the Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable in Montevideo, Uruguay (www.iibce.edu.uy/).
Clinical interests and research topics:
- Clinical pharmacology (including: applications of pharmacogenetics to individualization of drug therapies, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, and planning and evaluation of clinical trials of drug therapies);
- Pharmacoepidemiology, with particular regard to the use of drugs as indicators of incidence/prevalence of disease in populations and to the pattern of drug prescriptions as indicators of quality/apppropriateness of therapies;
- Pharmacovigilance, with emphasis on the methodologies for detection and reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADR) in routine medical practice and the factors affecting ADR reporting by medical practitioners.
